How it reads you
Read twice, and resolved against itself.
The test reads you twice, once through what you select and once through what you write. Visual selection tends to slip past the deliberating, self-editing part of test-taking in a way that written statements rarely manage, which is why the collages stay, and alongside them your written answers are scored against a model trained on the archive, so that what your language says can be set against the type your images chose, head to head, leaving the places where the two disagree visible instead of dissolving into an average that would have quietly hidden them.
The agreement or disagreement between those two readings is what produces your confidence figure, so when they converge the number is high because the evidence behind it is real, and when they diverge the number says so instead of smoothing the difference away.
The idea of reading type from the language a person uses about themselves, instead of from their answers to somebody else's statements, belongs to Katherine Chernick Fauvre, who began the Enneastyle research in 1995, and the validation study conducted on this lexicon in 2020 was built on that foundation.
What the model found is that word pairs carry the weight where single words mostly do not; “beauty” on its own tells you relatively little, while “beauty” and “mysterious” occurring together in the same person's answers turns out to be nearly ten times more likely in a Four than in anyone else.
Validation
What the numbers are measured against.
An assessment that oversells its accuracy tends to be doing the same thing it accuses every other personality test of doing, so Sterlin Mosley, PhD, and Aaron Addonizio publish the figures as they came out. Measured against a held-back portion of the archive it had never seen, the model separates each type from the other eight at between 0.74 and 0.89, on a scale where 0.50 would be useless and 0.80 counts as strong.

The astrological layer
Where the chart speaks, and where it stays quiet.

The chart abstains entirely on type and instinct, since the test owns those, and there is no version of this in which your birth data gets a vote on your personality. What a chart supplies is weather, image and timing, three things the Enneagram has never claimed to describe.

None of this prose is generated at the moment you read it. Every archetype, braid and timing passage is assembled from libraries written and approved in advance, so the same chart and the same type produce identical words every time, and the language model in the system never touches the archetypal reading at all. Its only job is a short reflection on what you personally wrote, offered as a reflection and not as a verdict, which is also the part that gets watched most closely.
